‘Nutmeg’ is a charming scented geranium grown for its soft, rounded gray-green leaves and its warm, spicy fragrance. When brushed or gently handled, the foliage releases a rich, comforting nutmeg scent—making this plant especially enjoyable near doorways, windows, patios, and seating areas.
Unlike sharper lemon or rose-scented varieties, ‘Nutmeg’ offers a mellow, cozy aroma with true spice character. In season, delicate sprays of small white flowers appear above the foliage, adding subtle beauty without taking attention away from its fragrance.
Naturally compact and tidy, this variety fits beautifully in containers, window boxes, and hanging baskets. It responds well to light pruning and can be brought indoors before frost to enjoy year-round in bright light.

Care & Details
Scent & Sensory Notes
The fragrance of scented geraniums lives in tiny oil glands along the leaves. When brushed or gently rubbed, these oil are released, filling the air with their distinctive perfume. This variety offers a [SCENT] fragrance that is best enjoyed up close— perfect near patios, windowsills, and doorways.
Light
Scented pelargoniums thrive in bright light. Outdoors, grow in full sun to partial shade, with protection from intense afternoon sun in the hottest climates. Indoors, place plants in a bright, sunny window— ideally south-facing—with at least four to five hours of direct light daily.
Water
Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil begins to dry. Allow excess water to drain freely and never let pots sit in standing water. Scented pelargoniums prefer an even rhythm of moisture and dislike wet, poorly drained soil.
Soil & Potting
Use a high-quality, well-draining potting mix that holds moisture evenly while allowing excess water to pass through. Container-grown plants benefit from repotting every one to two years to refresh the soil and encourage healthy root growth.
Pruning & Shaping
Regular pinching and light pruning encourage bushier growth and fresh, fragrant foliage. Trim as needed during the growing season. Established plants respond best to more thorough shaping in late winter or early spring, just before active growth begins.
Overwintering Indoors
Scented pelargoniums are tender and should be brought indoors before frost. Place plants in bright light and reduce watering slightly during winter. For garden-grown plants, many gardeners prefer to overwinter by rooting cuttings in early autumn rather than lifting mature plants.
