FAQs

We grow and ship live plants, and we know choosing the right ones comes with questions. Below you'll find answers about plant size, shipping, inspections, growing practices, and ordering. If you don't see what you're looking for, we're always happy to help.

About Our Plants

Why should I choose Charsaw plants?

We grow every plant right here at our nursery, with care and intention in everything we do. Our plants are grown using thoughtful, sustainable practices that focus on strong root systems and natural growth habits.

We prioritize plant health, seasonal growing, and careful handling, and our nursery is regularly inspected to meet state plant health standards. This means you receive resilient, well-established plants that are truly ready for life in your garden.

Are your plants organic?

We use thoughtful, sustainable growing practices that prioritize plant health, soil quality, and the well-being of pollinators. Our growing approach focuses on natural methods, and we rely on fish-based fertilizers rather than synthetic inputs.

We aim to minimize environmental impact and create a healthy growing environment for beneficial insects and surrounding ecosystems. While we are not currently certified organic, our goal is to grow strong, resilient plants in a responsible and environmentally mindful way.

Do you guarantee your plants?

We stand behind our plants and our packing process. While we can't control weather conditions or how plants are cared for after arrival, we do our best to ensure every order ships out healthy and in good condition.

If there are any issues when your plants arrive, please contact us within 48 hours with photos. This allows us to assess the situation and provide personalized care guidance to help your plants recover and thrive. The sooner we hear from you, the better chance your plants have for long-term success.

Are your plants inspected for plant health and disease?

Yes. Our nursery is inspected at least twice each year by the Oregon Department of Agriculture and meets state plant health and disease standards. These inspections allow us to legally ship plants and help ensure you receive healthy, high-quality starts.

How big will my plant be when it arrives?

Our plants are shipped in band pots, and their size varies depending on the season and stage of growth. Because we grow our plants naturally without artificial heat or lighting, they may arrive smaller than mass-produced garden center plants.

This slower, natural growing process builds strong root systems and resilient plants that establish quickly and continue to thrive for years in your garden.

Ordering & Shipping

When do you ship plants?

We ship seasonally and weather permitting to ensure plants arrive healthy and ready to grow. Shipping timing may vary based on plant type and your location. For spring, shipping typically begins early-mid April.

We determine ship dates based on Average Last Frost dates for your location and also specific plant readiness.

How are plants packed?

We have fine-tuned our packing method over the last 8+ years. Plants (in their pots with soil) are carefully packed by hand and tightly secured to protect roots and foliage during transit.

What size pots are your plants shipped in?

Most plants are shipped in 2 3/8 in. square X 3 3/4 in. tall band pots. Top growth varies on season and variety.

Do you ship bare-root plants?

No. Our plants ship potted in soil-filled band pots, not bare-root.

Do you ship nationwide?

Yes, we ship plants throughout the United States, following agricultural shipping guidelines.

How is shipping calculated?

Shipping rates are calculated in real time based on box size, weight, and destination, and are shown at checkout before you complete your order. We carefully select the best available option to ensure safe, timely delivery of your plants.

Because many plants can safely ship together in the same box, adding additional plants often helps reduce the shipping cost per plant.

Why is there a minimum order?

Shipping live plants safely requires careful packing, proper moisture and insulation, and sturdy boxes to prevent damage in transit. A minimum order allows us to pack plants securely and efficiently while minimizing waste and unnecessary handling.

This helps ensure your plants arrive healthy and ready to grow.

About Our Nursery

Where are you located?

Our main nursery is located in Southern Oregon, where we grow and care for our potted plants. This location allows us to focus on strong root systems and healthy, resilient growth.

We also operate a lavender farm and gift shop in Napa, California.

How long have you been growing plants?

We have been growing plants for many years and bring hands-on experience, continual learning, and careful observation into everything we do. Our growing practices are shaped by real-world conditions and long-term success in the garden.

Do you grow everything on-site?

Yes. From propagation to packing, every step happens at our nursery, allowing us to closely monitor plant health, growth, and quality from start to finish.

Why choose your nursery over big-box stores?

Our plants are grown right here at our nursery using thoughtful, seasonal growing practices that prioritize strong root systems and natural growth habits. Rather than rushing production, we allow our plants to develop at their own pace so they become healthier, stronger, and better adapted to real outdoor conditions.

Every plant is handled by people who truly know and care about plants. We focus on long-term performance—not short-term appearance—so our plants are grown to thrive in gardens, not just look good for a few days.

The result is tougher, more resilient plants that are prepared for real weather, real soil, and real gardeners.
