Lavandula x intermedia 'Sussex' is a lavandin cultivar known for its impressive stature and ornamental appeal. This large variety has flower spikes that extend 2-4 inches in length, supported by long sturdy stems reaching up to 18 inches, creating striking visual interest. The long stems make beautiful fresh bouquets and are great for making lavender wands. The blooms display a sophisticated color progression: deep violet calyces and violet-blue corollas mature to a refined mid-violet hue that photographs beautifully and complements diverse garden palettes. Flowering from mid-July through August, 'Sussex' delivers extended seasonal color when many other perennials fade. Beyond visual merit, this cultivar releases a characteristically sweet fragrance that attracts pollinators while perfuming the surrounding landscape. Hardy and drought-tolerant once established, it thrives in well-draining soil and full sun, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping, cut flower production, and pollinator gardens.
We ship based on the average last frost date for your shipping zip code and also when the plants are well rooted in their pots. Most plants are shipped in 2 3/8” square, by 3 ¾” deep “band pots”. Top growth varies by species and ship date but will be well rooted and ready to plant.
