Red Baron grass is grown almost entirely for its color. In spring, fresh blades emerge a clean medium green. As the season warms, the tips begin to blush red—and then deepen into rich crimson. By late summer and fall, much of each blade glows with red, creating a dramatic, flame-like effect in the garden.
This grass grows in a neat, upright clump and rarely flowers, keeping all the attention on its foliage. It’s stunning along borders, in mixed beds, and in containers where its color can be seen up close. In winter, the leaves fade to a soft straw color, and a simple cut back in early spring makes way for fresh new growth.
Red Baron spreads slowly by underground runners, forming gentle colonies over time without becoming aggressive in most garden settings.
