Snowbank Boltonia (Boltonia asteroides ‘Snowbank’) is a tall, airy native perennial that sends up clouds of small white daisies from late summer into fall. At peak bloom in August and September, the upper half of the plant becomes a soft haze of white flowers with sunny yellow centers, creating height and movement without heaviness.
In full sun, stems stay upright without staking. Plants grown in partial shade may stretch and benefit from support. Mature plants typically reach 3–4 ft tall, occasionally taller in rich soil.
A true workhorse in the perennial garden, Snowbank thrives in moist, fertile soil but is surprisingly drought-tolerant once established. Its nectar-rich blooms support late-season pollinators when many flowers are fading.
WHY GARDENERS VALUE IT
- Native perennial with long bloom season
- Upright stems that rarely flop in sun
- Airy texture for borders and naturalistic plantings
- Reliable late-season pollinator support
- Excellent cut flower filler
HOW IT GROWS
- Type: Herbaceous perennial
- Sun: Full sun preferred
- Soil: Moist, fertile, well-drained
- Water: Moderate; drought tolerant once established
- Zones: 4–9
- Habit: Upright, clumping, airy
SIZE & BLOOM
- Height × Width: 3–4 ft × 2–3 ft
- Flower size: ¾–1 inch
- Color: Clear white with yellow centers
- Bloom: Late summer through frost (peak late summer)
GROWER NOTES
- Divide clumps every few years to maintain vigor
- Seed may germinate readily but will not come true to cultivar
- Best placed toward the back of borders or in meadow plantings
Best suited for gardeners who want height, pollinator value, and late-season bloom without extra maintenance.
WHO ITS NOT FOR
Snowbank Boltonia may not be the best fit if you:
- Prefer compact or low-growing plants
- Garden mostly in shade
- Want bold, large individual blooms instead of a soft cloud effect
- Need a tightly structured, formal look
- Prefer plants that peak in early summer rather than late season
This is a plant for gardeners who appreciate height, movement, and that late-summer moment when the garden needs a lift.

What to Expect With Your Plants
What size plants will I receive?
Most plants ship in 2 3/8” x 3 3/4” band pots—ideal for healthy root growth.
Top growth varies by variety and season, but every plant arrives well-rooted, actively growing, and ready to plant.
Grown naturally without artificial heat or lights, our plants are hardy, adaptable, and ready to thrive in real garden conditions.
When will my plants ship?
We schedule plant orders based on your area’s average last frost date and when each plant is truly ready to ship. You’ll receive an email with your estimated ship date once your order is scheduled.
Orders ship Monday–Wednesday via UPS or USPS (2–3 day service), so your plants arrive before the weekend and spend less time in transit. Shipping begins in spring—usually mid-April—when weather and plant health align, so your plants arrive strong, well-rooted, and ready to thrive.
Do you guarantee your plants?
We stand behind our plants and our packing process. While we can't control weather or how plants are cared for after arrival, we do guarantee that your plants will arrive healthy and in good condition. If there's an issue, just reach out and we're happy to help.
Are your plants inspected for plant health and disease?
Yes. Our nursery is inspected at least twice each year by the Oregon Department of Agriculture and meets state plant health and disease standards.
Why does shipping cost what it does for live plants?
Shipping live plants requires careful packaging, seasonal timing, and fast transit to ensure they arrive healthy.
Our shipping rates are calculated in real time based on box size, weight, and destination, and we always select the best available option for safe, timely delivery.
We never inflate shipping costs — you pay what it costs us to ship your order safely.
