Aster carolinianus (climbing aster)

This native of the southeastern U.S. has the unusual habit (for an Aster) of twining upwards if given support. It can be grown on a trellis or among other neighboring plants. Pretty purple flowers in late autumn. It is usually the last flower to bloom in our garden.
